Sprankle Uses Arm and Bat to Propel Lancers to Victory
HEBRON, OH – It was a game to remember for one Mason Sprankle, as he helped Lakewood pull off a 2-1 victory over Newark Catholic on the baseball diamond on Friday. With LCL action just getting underway this season, Sprankle came up when it mattered most both on the mound and at the plate. He had a strong outing, going six innings, only giving up one run and striking out four batters along the way.
The scoring started early, as Nate Gall beat out an infield single in the bottom of the first to put Lakewood ahead, as part of a three-for-three game for him.
Soon after that though, the Green Wave answered with a double from Miller Hutchison before scoring on a single from Owen Przymierski.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 for much of the ball game until Sprankle changed that in the sixth inning. He drove home the go-ahead run, showing off his prowess both at the plate as well as the mound, and that put the Lancers up for good.
It was a pitcher’s duel to say the least, as Newark Catholic’s Mikey Hess went six innings as well, allowing two runs and striking out three for the Green Wave in the tough loss.
Lakewood travels to Utica on Tuesday, while Newark Catholic is away to Heath on Tuesday evening.
