Spring Time Brings Paving Projects

ZANESVILLE, OH – The warmer weather of spring time marks the start of some much needed paving projects.
Mayor Don Mason says as soon as Tuesday, April 14th, citizens will begin to see milling and paving take place across the city.
He says in total 16 streets will be milled down and repaved due to the harsh winter weather we had this year.
“We’re doing about $700,000 worth of asphalt across the city and that normally makes the motorists pretty happy.” Mayor Mason said. “The bottom line is the pavement program takes place in practically every ward of the city. So you’ll be seeing on Bennet Ave. and Eastview, Sunrise, McOwen, Eppley, Cliffwood St., Clearview Ave., Sheridan, Geneva, Newman St., Military, Artis, and those areas, you’ll be seeing the Pavement Program this year.”
Mason says what set this winter apart from others we’ve experienced was due to the amount of rain we had.
He says the water was able to sink into the ground table and when it froze, it created large cracks which then turned into potholes.
“That’s the worst thing for streets is having water underneath it, it freezes, and then it pops. That’s what creates a lot of the potholes and cracks, so it’s just interesting that this year when we’re paving, what we’re really hitting on some of the issues that came up over the winter months.”
Mayor Mason says the milling and paving is expected to begin on Tuesday with Military Rd and last through Friday, May 1st.
