State Highway Patrol Holiday Stats

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – While you were celebrating the New Year, Ohio State Highway Patrol was out making sure the roads were safe.
Over the increased travel period, from the Friday before Christmas up to this week, the State Highway Patrol Zanesville Post experienced a relatively quiet time. Lieutenant Matt Boyd said there were 33 traffic crashes, of the 33, only five had injury. None of the crashes were fatal. He says during the holiday season, people are more wary driving out on the roads.
“A lot of people played it smart, and took into account the fact that we’re gonna have extra patrols out there. Sheriff’s Office and Police Department had a big presence, and so they either stayed where they were consuming alcohol or partying or they had a designated driver,” said Boyd.
The State Highway Patrol always encourages citizens to obey traffic laws and pay attention to their surroundings when driving. The important thing is to remain focused.
“So we always just strongly encourage people to make sure they focus at the task at hand which is driving. Allow more time when there’s more vehicles on the roadway, you know it’s going to be busier, and just allow more time to travel,” Boyd added.
Other pointers for drivers are to wear seat belts and to never drive impaired, that helps State Highway Patrol keep the roadways safe.
