State Representatives Meet with County Commissioners to Discuss Budget Bill
ZANESVILLE, OH – Ohio lawmakers recently passed the State’s Operating Budget Bill, now it awaits approval from Governor Mike DeWine.
On Monday, State Representative of the 97th District, Adam Holmes, met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss what’s exactly in the bill and how it can affect our residents.
Holmes said one of the big things in the budget is a cut to property tax; the budget will phase down property tax to a flat 2.75% over the next two years.
“The number one issue in Ohio is property tax,” Holmes said. “So we wanted to find ways to help reduce the impact of property tax and give more decision making information and authorities to the Counties and other local level leaders.”
Holmes said this new property tax makes it fair for all Ohioans because they’ll all be paying the same amount.
“The property tax has really impacted a lot of land owners and so there’s only a couple of courses of action, you can get taxes from other sources,” Homes said. “Sales taxes, or you reduce spending, so these are tough decisions but, again, our County Commissioners and our local leaders are the right people to make those decisions.”
Gov. DeWine is expected to approve the budget bill on Tuesday.
