State Senate Candidate Visits Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County Commissioners recently met with the Democrat candidate running for Ohio’s District 31 Senate seat. 

Laura Sirot, from Wooster, who is running against Republican Incumbent Al Landis in the fall election, travelled to Zanesville, to introduce herself and inquire about some of the local concerns that she could help address at the state level, once elected. 

“So the slogan for our campaign is ‘finding common ground to work for the common good.’ And so I’m hoping that with everyone I work with, I can listen to them, be an active listener. Understand their concerns, understand the problem. Talk to people that have really different perspectives than my own and bring it all together to solve problems and create change that will improve the lives of Ohioans,” Sirot said.

District 31 serves the majority of Wayne, Tuscarawas and Muskingum Counties with parts of Guernsey and Stark Counties included. Each region features small cities with lots of rural communities in between. Her objective is to identify the similarities and promote the solutions that best serve all. 

“And so for each of the problems that I face, I need to collect data,” Sirot said. “I need to listen to people, find out what’s known already about what’s worked and hasn’t worked. I like to find out expertise that’s different from my own. And then bring all that information, talking to lots of different people and listening to them to see how we can best serve everybody’s needs. And so I think it’s not so much a particular issue that I would be advocating for, it’s more the approach I would take.”

Sirot advocates for making life more affordable for Ohioans, funding public education and making tax and voting systems that are fair and accountable.
