Statuary Hall to Display New Thomas Edison Sculpture

A Zanesville sculptor has been chosen to display his work at the U.S. Capitol.

62-year-old Alan Cottrill is the creator of the new bronze statue of Thomas Edison that will be put on display at the Statuary Hall in Washington D.C. Cottrill describes sculpting as his passion and says he feels quite honored for this opportunity.

"There’s no greater honor really for a living artist, i think there’s 6 living sculptors who have their pieces in the capitol building, Ohio has not put a piece in it since 1880, so it’s a rare opportunity."

Cottrill says he contacted the Ohio Commission 4 and a half years ago and has been working to various degree’s on it ever since.

"They’ve scheduled in October of 2015 unveiling, it will be pretty cool. It goes in a place of honor in the U.S. Capitol building for a year, then it will be put in a permanent collections among the other 100 statues from around the country."

To view more of Cottrill’s work, stop in his sculpting workshop on 6th street in downtown Zanesville.
