ZANESVILLE, OH- The 9th Annual Strike Out Breast Cancer Tournament took place today at Sunrise Strikes in Zanesville.

One in eight women in the United States are likely to have breast cancer at least once in their lifetime. The tournament serves as a way to raise money for the Genesis Breast Cancer Center and help families alleviate some of the costs that come with a diagnosis.

“This group was able to raise 10,000 dollars to donate to Genesis Cancer Care Center, and more specifically the Breast Center, which is so amazing, what an amazing accomplishment, and it’s all inspiring what they have done for this community, we use those funds directly for local patients, including helping them with wigs, things that they need after a mastectomy and lumpectomy, gas cards, help with medications, all types of things and it goes directly to the local patients, so we are so grateful that they are able to put this event together and help as much as they have,” said Pebbles Thornton, the Director of Cancer Services at Genesis.

It is important to make sure you are getting proper screenings done for breast cancer regularly. Discovering cancer early could save your life.

” So I’m a breast cancer survivor myself, and this is my nine year anniversary, and you know it’s just giving back to the community that gave to me and my family while we were on our journey, and just being blessed by all of you here in Zanesville, Ohio that are here today, we have over 202 bowlers here today and not only are we raising money by the entry, but we also have a silent auction, we have half and half, we have all kinds of things that you can donate to,” said Tammy Hildenbrand, Strike Out Breast Cancer Chair Person.

The Strike Out Breast Cancer Tournament will return next year for their 10th year. They anticipate their 10th to be their biggest one yet.
