Strike Out for Breast Cancer

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Breast Cancer is a dreadful diagnosis for women of any age but with proper care and support, it doesn’t always have to lead to a negative outcome.

USBC-Zanesville Board Member and Strike Out for Breast Cancer Chairperson Tammy Ansberry-Hildenbrand is a breast cancer survivor who has created an annual bowling tournament that raises funds to assist the needs of breast cancer patients.

“The Strike Out for Breast Cancer tournament is held yearly,” Ansberry-Hildenbrand said. “This is our 9th year. It will be at Sunrise Bowling and thank goodness for them because they have a big house. Last year was our first historic time, our very first… we had never sold out. We can house a hundred and ninety two bowlers. We also made a new mark in that we sold out two weeks before.”

This year has sold out as well, meaning that there are no more openings for bowlers but plenty of opportunities for spectators and donors to participate in all of the fun.

“We have a silent auction that goes on all day long,” Ansberry-Hildenbrand said. “We have a ball raffle, a bowling ball raffle. If you are an Ohio State fan, you know the Buck I Guy. you’ve seen him on… a glimpse of him on TV and if you’ve ever been to the Shoe, you’ve seen him in the Shoe or walking up Lane Avenue. And he brings as many and any Ohio State Items. I mean I even think he has Cincinnati Reds stuff.”

Proceeds from the auctioned and raffled items will stay within the community to purchase wigs, bras, prosthetics, medications and other items that may not be covered by insurance.

The event will begin Noon, Saturday, February 3rd, at the Sunrise Bowling Center on the East Pike with a ceremony preceding the nine-pin, no-tap tournament.
