Students Collect Donations for Heartbeats Organization

ZANESVILLE, OH – Diapers, wipes, and sippy cups are just some of the items collected by students at Bishop Rosecrans and Bishop Fenwick in their support of life.

This marks the third year that the schools have gathered donations for the non-profit pregnancy clinic Heartbeats. Heartbeats provides resources and care for women and families.

Heartbeats director Linda Dady expressed her excitement over the student’s involvement.

“I am so happy to see that the students are eager to help. It’s important for young people to engage in their community because it takes a village to raise a child. By participating in service activities at this young age, we hope they will continue to support their community as they grow,” Dady said. “It’s a wonderful gift to your community.”

Onesies were a new donation item for Heartbeats this year. The fifth-grade class at Bishop Fenwick donated over 40 to the organization.

Fifth-grade teachers Michelle Slater and Stacey Mohler emphasized the importance of community service for their students.

“I think it helps them realize that we’re very fortunate and that they can always help somebody no matter where they are in life,” Slater remarked.

Mohler added, “I think it gives them a good feeling, to know they’re helping other people. It’s making that service real to them. It shows that even as a fifth grader they can have an impact.”

Both schools plan to continue the drive next year and will remain involved in their community for years to come.
