Students Get Taste of College

High school students with dreams of furthering their education spent Friday morning at Ohio University Zanesville-Zane State Campus.

With rows and rows of college recruiters from five states filling the campus center over a 1,000 students from 20 high school poured over admissions information, with hopes of creating a brighter future.

"It’s really important," said New Lexington Senior Tiffany Alfman. "So that I can have good money to survive on."

For one student, there’s many factors in choosing a college.

Jordan Lorenz a Senior at Philo High School said, "The campus lifestyle, like if they have a good education program."

One recruiter says that the college day helps students who can’t travel to every school of interest.

"I think that students need to think of themselves first and where they would be comfortable," explained Acting Director of Student Services at OUZ Jason Howard. "They need to think about the major they want, the size of the school that they want and they need to think about how far away from home they want to go. Once they’ve determined those factors its easier to narrow down majors, price and things like that."

Howard says because of the diversity of the college fair students got to see the differences between small and large schools in different areas.
