Students Learn About Vehicle-Related Careers

Local elementary students recently got the chance to start their career explorations early.

Many people spend their work-day behind the wheel of a vehicle. Maysville Elementary kindergartners and preschoolers were exposed to a variety of different careers for a “Vehicle-Career Day.” A fire truck, helicopter, and sheriff’s cruiser were just some of the models on display for the kids to explore.

“This is called a vehicle-career day, we brought in 10 different businesses that actually are all represented by a vehicle of some sort, and the kids get to rotate every nine or 10 minutes to the stations and get to find out a little bit about those careers,” said Assistant Principal, Adam King.

Each year, Maysville hosts one big educational event for the different grade levels, and King said it’s the first time the school has ever hosted something like this. While visiting the different stations, students had the chance to meet representatives from each career field and learn about their day-to-day job duties.

“We’re just trying to bring awareness to the kids, kind of get them excited for potential and future jobs they could hold right here in our own community,” King said.

Newton Township Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and the American Red Cross were just some of the agencies that participated.
