ZANESVILLE, OH- As the summer heat continues, help is available for Ohio families who are struggling to stay cool. The Summer Crisis Program, offered by the Ohio Department of Development in partnership with Muskingum Economic Opportunity Action Group Inc., provides assistance with electric bills, the purchase of fans or air conditioners, or repairs to central air systems. The program runs through September 30, and appointments are available now.

This program is designed for income-eligible households, especially those with a disconnection notice, no electric service, or a medical condition that makes it harder to stay healthy in extreme heat. Households with someone aged 60 or older may also qualify for support.

To apply, Muskingum County residents should call 740-302-8404 to schedule an appointment with the Muskingum County Community Action Agency. During the appointment, applicants will need to bring photo ID, proof of income, recent utility bills, and any documentation related to a medical condition if applicable.

A faster and more convenient way to apply is now available online at energyhelp.ohio.gov. Applicants will need to create an OHID account to access the system. Setting up an account takes just a few minutes and gives you secure access to manage your energy assistance information.

Last year, more than 44,000 households across Ohio received help through the Summer Crisis Program, providing more than $13 million in support. If you’re feeling the pressure of high electric bills or unsafe indoor temperatures, don’t wait reach out today.
