Summer Nights Come Alive at West Muskingum High’s Grease

ZANESVILLE, OH –As the curtains lifted at West Muskingum High and the first notes of ‘Summer Nights’ hit the air, it became clear: in this high school auditorium, the grease wasn’t just for the hair.
The West Muskingum Vocal Boosters proudly present their production of Grease.
“Grease is actually the first production that I ever directed here,” said Josh Whetstone, West Muskingum choral director. “So, it’s kind of exciting for me to go back and do it again. This is my first double—our first time doing a show for the second time. I always felt like we needed to wait at least ten years between shows to double up, but it just sells! Grease sells tickets, and it’s selling tickets right now. It’s a great show, and everybody seems to love it.”
With the spirit of summer and the thrill of young love in the air, the excitement among the cast is infectious. Just like the song says, ‘Summer Lovin’ happened so fast!’—and tonight, those summer memories are coming to life right here on stage. The talented cast members have worked hard alongside alumni, the agricultural program, the arts program, and the instrumental program during rehearsals, showcasing the dedication that makes this production special.
“Rizzo is kind of the leader of the Pink Ladies,” said student Sarah Whetstone, who plays Rizzo. “She’s different from Sandy for sure, and she does not like Sandy, but she warms up to her in the end.”
“And Kenickie?” added Lucas Stant, who plays Kenickie. “He’s in with the Greasers, giving Danny a hard time. They all just, you know, it’s very much like we are in real life up on the stage. We give each other a hard time and mess around; it’s just a lot of fun.”
Tickets for tonight are already sold out, but have no fear, if you’d like to support West Muskingum High School, there are two showings on Saturday—one at 2 PM and another at 7 PM, plus a 2PM showing on Sunday. Visit WestMChoir.Ludus.com to purchase your tickets.
