Summer of Service: Genesis Healthcare Invites Volunteers to Get Involved

ZANESVILLE, OH – Summer is just around the corner, and Genesis Healthcare is calling on the community to lend a helping hand. They’re looking for both adult volunteers and what they call “VolunTeens” to step up and make a difference.

Genesis Healthcare is actively seeking volunteers to fill a variety of roles. Their VolunTeen program is open to students ages 16-18 who can commit to volunteering from June through mid-August. But opportunities aren’t just for teens—adults of all ages are welcome to serve.

“So, at this present time, we are looking for our VolunTeens who are ages 16-18 who are able to volunteer during the summertime, about June through mid-August. Then we also have adult volunteers, any age between 16 and on, who are able to come and serve at the hospital,” said Genesis Volunteer Manager Lee McGee.

There are plenty of ways to get involved, from pet therapy and assisting in the gift shop to stocking supplies, escorting patients, and even providing spiritual care. Volunteers are also needed at Genesis Coshocton Medical Care Center. Plus, for students, this is a great way to earn school volunteer hours.

“We also have fundraising events that we have the hospital do. The upcoming one is our book sale, and then we also have another one, a plant sale that we partner with Timber Run. We do need a lot of volunteers who are able to be a chair leader for that, and that would look as if you would come in, organize the forms, communicate with the outside resources, and you’d communicate with myself, the volunteer manager,” McGee added.

Applications are first come, first served, and it’s preferred that all submissions be in by the second Friday of April. For more information, call the Volunteer Office at 740-454-4700 or visit the Genesis website.
