Summer Reading Programs at All MCLS Locations

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Summer reading programs have blasted off at all Muskingum County Library System locations.
The Summer reading program is an interactive way to interest children into reading, discovering, and creating during Summer break with a fun space theme called “a universe of stories.” Kids are able to discover the most recommended books and events, log their reading and activities, and even earn raffle tickets, badges, and prizes along the way.
“What’s really great about our Summer reading program is that even if you have grandchildren that are coming in and maybe spending a week or two. You can register them for those two weeks and they can still be encouraged to read, win prizes, and attend really fun programs,” said MCLS Marketing Community Relations Director, Sean Fennell.
The purpose of the Summer reading program is to develop literacy. Children will still be able to stay updated and improve their literacy skills during the Summer season even when they are not in school.
“One of the critical things about any Summer reading program at a library is that it prevents the Summer slide. And actually, it does a little bit more than that,” said Fennell.
“Summer reading actually reverses that and you can have your children start the school year ahead of where they left off at the end of the year,” he added.
You can learn about all the Summer reading programs and events directly on the Muskingum County Library System’s website, www.muskingumlibrary.org/.
