Sweet Gestures on Saturday

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – An 80’s themed fundraiser will be held Saturday at Lind Arena to support a local art promotional organization.

GoodCity Creatives President and Director Faith Cornell talked about the annual Sweet Gestures event and invited the public to come and help support local youth in developing their creative talent.

“Sweet Gestures is a gesture drawing fundraiser that began in 2023,” Cornell said. “And it got its name because we were trying to come up with our annual fundraiser and we were discussing gesture drawing because it’s something that we don’t see a lot of here in Zanesville. But if you’re maybe in Columbus and you’re an artist there are opportunities for you to get together with other artists and doodle and draw. And so we thought that would be fun.”

The sweet gets added in with the various desserts that are on hand along with the kind donations, which serve as a type of gesture. There will be a dessert contest, a best dressed contest in addition to multiple door prizes and raffles with plenty of eclectic items up for grabs.

“So this year is a celebration of kind of where we’ve been and we decided to do that with an 80’s,” Cornell said. “So we hope that people will come out and this is open to the public, not just artists. We hope that people will come out and they will be dressed in their best 80s gear. So we hope people will come out with big hair and neon tights and all this stuff so that it could just be a fun time.”

GoodCity Creatives is a nonprofit arts organization that conducts and promotes several youth art programs, which offer kids opportunities to create positive experiences.

Sweet Gestures will take place 5:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Lind Arena, located at 900 Linden Avenue in Zanesville. For more information and to purchase tickets in advance, you can visit them online.
