S. ZANESVILLE – Trick or treating begins at 5:30 Saturday night and will last until 7. South Zanesville Police Department Chief Mark Ross says remembering to social distance is an important factor for a safe Halloween.

“You’re not going to see mostly the group of parents and kids and they’re going to maintain that social distance. Parties; there probably aren’t going to be any. They don’t recommend to have any because of the conglomerate of people together so we need to recognize the safety of ourselves and the children,” South Zanesville Police Chief Mark Ross said.

The police will be present to enforce safety regulations but will also be in the spirit Halloween night.

“We’re going to look out for speed. We’re going to make sure that kids are not darting in and out of traffic and also we’re going to give each patrol car, there’s going to be two of us, we’re going to be running around. We’re going to give out some candy from our patrol car. Of course, we’re going to maintain our protocols of keeping our masks on and we’ll be handing out the candy to the children,” Ross said.

Ross said that South Zanesville residents normally use their best judgment during Halloween and he anticipates trick or treaters will remember to be socially distant.
