Teeing Up a Good Time
Deals can be made with a handshake but sometimes all it takes is a putter.
The Perry County Chamber of Commerce held their 19th Annual Golf Shootout and cookout at the Perry County Country Club. Organizers said while the primary goal is to raise funds there’s another reason to hit the links.
"The other thing is just to get people together and have some fun and fellowship together and socialize and enjoy the beautiful weather which we are fortunate to have," said Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce John Ulmer.
Ulmer said they’ll continue to promote tourism in the area with the Moonshine Festival in New Straitsville starting next Friday, but they’re also looking at keeping business in the area as well with a retention and expansion program.
"We recognize the likelihood of bringing in a large plant of 3 to 4 hundred is relatively slim," explained Ulmer. "If we can help the ones that we have retain their number of employees and maybe expand a little bit if they could pick up 10 jobs and do that it would be an incredible asset to the county."
17 teams took part in Sunday’s shootout for a chance to win money and a free 24 month lease of a 2011 Ford Fusion Sport for a hole in one.
