The 2nd Annual ‘Veterans Appreciation Weekend’ is Only 7 days Away

The start to the 2nd Annual Veterans Appreciation weekend is only 7 days away.

The weekend long event begins Friday June 10th and goes on until Sunday, June 12th. Friday will be the start to the ‘Flags of Honor’ held at Zane’s Landing Park. The Fink’s Poker Run will take place on Saturday followed by an after bash at Terry’s Tavern. On Sunday, Green Valley Golf Club will host a golf outing fundraiser.

“This year most of our money is going to the ‘Honor Flight’ out of Columbus, Ohio so it’s more localized more regional and we’ve hoping to send anywhere from 20 to 40 guys over to Washington, D.C, to the ‘Honor Flight,'” said Steve Galloway, General Manager & PGA Golf Professional, Green Valley Golf Club.

Air Force Veteran, Wendell Dreier has been a guardian for the ‘Honor Flight’ for two different occasions. Dreier said it’s interesting and enjoyable to see the veterans receive their appreciation and shared with us his experience.

“Oh, it’s great, it’s the greatest feeling anybody could ever have. All the veterans that I’ve talked to say they are sure glad they got to go. They get petty tired but, they really enjoy it,” said Dreier.

Galloway said last year they raised over $15,000 and this year they plan to exceed that amount.
