The 30th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run
The 30th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run stopped in downtown Zanesville Thursday.
Local law enforcement and correction officers ran the ‘Flame of Hope’ from Cambridge to New concord and concluded in Zanesville. Officers meet and socialize with the special Olympics athletes on the steps of the Muskingum County Courthouse before the Olympians assist in running the flame of hope out of town.
“We run in legs and through the town. Yesterday was in McConnelsville and today ran in Cambridge, New Concord and Zanesville. Tomorrow we’re going to Newark leading up to Columbus,” said Lt. Matt Boyd.
Lt. Boyd said he’s been running in the law enforcement torch run for 15 years now and told us it’s important to keep the tradition alive.
“These people, that are involved in this. The law enforcement people are very enthuse to come out and support it every year. It means a lot to the special Olympians to be able to meet with us. Several of the run with us in the different legs and it means a lot to them so it’s it’s very important to us to keep it going,” said Lt. Boyd.
The torch run will wrap up Friday in Columbus at the Jesse Owens Stadium for the start to the 2016 Special Olympics Summer Games.
