The 5th Annual “Run 4 Grant” 5K

Hundreds of area runners and walkers took part in the 5th Annual ‘Run 4 Grant’ 5K, Saturday morning.

‘Run 4 Grant’ was created in honor of Grant Hickman who lost his life unexplained 5 years ago Grant’s mother Beth Hickman says the 5k is a fundraiser for the Grant Hickman Foundation to raise scholarship money for local deserving students.

“When Grant passed I was just really afraid that people would forget about him and a friend suggested lets do a little run and this little run is huge. We made it an annually event, possibly a couple more years with it until at least Valerie graduates. It’s just a way of remembering,” said Beth Hickman.

In order to qualify for the scholarships students must fill out an application and complete an essay through the Muskingum County Community Foundation.

“It’s based on the essay mainly, we don’t know the students names until the reveal and that makes it kind of nice. We do try to spread it out amongst the high schools because, Grant had friends at all high schools,” said Beth Hickman.

Hickman said it’s important to keep Grant’s legacy alive while also doing something special for the community.
