The Animal Shelter Society Recognizes New Paws-itive Partnership
ZANESVILLE, OH- The Animal Shelter Society highlighted another Paws-itive Partnership in our community.
Spectrum presented a check to the Animal Shelter today totaling $1,120.
April Gibson, the Executive Director of the Animal Shelter Society, said that money will all go back to take care of the over 100 animals in their care.
“The employees here are absolutely fantastic, they reached out to us and did this really nice donation for us,” Gibson said. “It’s because they do believe in our adopt, no-kill, shelter. Their staff steps up every time that we need something, we do a couple of events out here with them each year we bring pets out for their employees and staffing, and you know that’s a plus. That means Spectrum believes in what we’re doing and we believe in Spectrum.”
Gibson said she also wants pet owners to know about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to the heat. She said the Ohio Department of Agriculture sent out a warning for the 112 degree heat indexes predicted for the rest of the week.
Gibson said if you are unable to place the back of your hand on the concrete for a few seconds without it burning, then it is too hot out for your furry friends.
“Make sure they have plenty of water, if you do have to keep them outside, I know sometimes that happens, make sure they have shade,” Gibson said. “The Ohio Revised Code says 3 things to protect these animals; it is proper shelter, food, and water, and we have folks out looking at that daily, so are we on our adopted pets. So just make sure that’s happening, the other thing that’s really sad to see is dogs in the back of beds of trucks, that’s metal and steel, that’s hot on them, you may think it’s cool to take them out, but it’s not.”
The Animal Shelter Society will be closed beginning on Saturday through the Labor Day holiday. Gibson said she and her staff will be hard at work deep cleaning and getting the shelter ready for cooler weather.
