The Bethlehem Walk

Hundreds came out to experience the walk many consider to be the start of their Christmas season.
The Bethlehem Walk is a free outdoor drama based on the journey Mary and Joseph took the night Jesus Christ was born. Members of the community came to the Chandlersville United Methodist church and enjoyed a variety of music from their choir. Then buses arrived and transported them to the field where the walk began.
“It’s my start for the Christmas season. It’s everybody’s start for the holiday season. It’s not just the start of the people that goes through the walk; it energizes all of us. We’re all ready now for the season and what joy it brings,” said Judy Van Horn.
This program runs each year, the Friday, Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving and they see on average 1000 people throughout the weekend. Van Horn tells us the most exciting part is seeing the kids reaction.
“The best thing that happens is when you see the vans pull in from other churches and we get little children from off the vans and the little kids who think Santa Claus is the reason for this season who come back from this event and realize there’s so much more more about Christmas; and that’s the exciting part,” said Van Horn.
This production has been running for 13 years and along with Chandlersville United Methodist, there are also 12 other local churches that participated in making this production a success.
