ZANESVILLE, OHIO – Local poets are getting the opportunity to share their work and network thanks to the Muskingum County Library System.

Voices in Verse is an event that starts tomorrow at 5 p.m. where local poets of any experience level can share their creative works in a safe environment at the Herrold Hall Library on the campus of Ohio University Zanesville. This will be the second time the Muskingum County Library has organized this event which Adult Services Assistant Librarian Skyler Tigner looks forward to.

“We want to create safe spaces where people can be creative and share their work especially in the literary world. People hit on a lot of tough topics. So I think it was very brave to see people be so vulnerable at a first event like that and not kind of knowing what to expect,” Tigner said. “So, I hope that we kind of see the same vulnerability and just people feeling comfortable to share whatever they need to get off their chest.”

On top of creating a environment that allows people to share their passion projects, Voices in Verse also allows for connections to be made with other writers in the area.

“We are very excited to have people come back and read their works. We also had a lot of networking between writers last time so we’re hoping to have that same sense of community this time,” Tigner said.

Poets who would like to read their work must register for the event through the library’s website and will have a five-to-ten minute time limit. Registration is not required for general audience members. More information can be found on the library’s website. This event is intended for adults only to allow for mature content matter.
