The Final Make Muskingum Home Award

ZANESVILLE, OH—The 13th and final Make Muskingum Home check was handed out today.
Alex Staton, a 6th-12th grade special education teacher in the Maysville school district was the final recipient of the program. This award of 21,932 dollars was extra special to her as she has hopes to continue her education now that she is debt free.
“It means a lot because now I can go back to school. My biggest fear was racking up more and more debt, but I want to continue my education,” Staton said. “I want to go further, and you know with more education, more doors open so now I have a chance to go back.”
Many gathered around in support to watch their teacher and co-worker accept this honor. A beautiful display of cake, cupcakes, and balloons awaited Staton in her classroom.
Brian Wagner, CEO of the Muskingum County Community Foundation, enjoys surprising recipients.
“This project with the Community Foundation and the Straker Foundation, it’s a great opportunity. [We look for] people that want to stay in our community and want to be a part of our community,” Wagner said. “So, it’s wonderful to go out and help make these rewards this week.”
While the current application cycle has closed, the next Make Muskingum Home cycle is expected to open in the fall. Although the application process is said to be thorough, residents of Muskingum County are encouraged to check it out and apply once it begins.
