The Fourth of July is Less Than a Week Away

The Fourth of July is Less Than a Week AwayZANESVILLE, Ohio– Fourth of July is less than a week away.

With the upcoming holiday it would not be an Independence Day celebration without fireworks. The Zanesville Jaycess will be holding their annual Fourth of July fireworks display downtown.

“9:45 p.m. is when the shells are going to go off. You really should be in place by 9 o clock,” Zanesville Fire Department Firefighter Stephen Vincent said.

ZFD wants you to keep some key things in mind in regards to fireworks. These tips will not only keep you safe and save you a trip to the ER but also keep you out of trouble with the law.

“Consumer fireworks are technically illegal. You have to sign a piece a paper saying that you’re taking them out of the State of Ohio. It’s legal to sell them here. It’s not legal to let them off. As far as sparklers are concerned for young children i think it’s one of the most dangerous fireworks we have. The end of that sparkler tip burns 1200 degrees. You touch the end of that sparkler it’s an instant 3rd degree burn. In my estimation that’s pretty dangerous for young kids. Be cautious. Celebrate don’t end up in the er.

The fireworks will be set off from the Y Bridge Monday, July 4th.
