The Garrison’s Goal Prayer Breakfast

Hundreds rallied together for a benefit breakfast Friday morning to help a local cause.

The Garrison’s Goal Prayer Breakfast took place at the Fieldhouse Friday. The fundraiser is in honor of Garrison, the son of Hendra and Matt Brown. Matt was a local teacher and soccer coach at Philo but, recently passed after losing his battle to cancer.

"This is the reason why we are here today. This is an event called ‘garrison’s goal’ and garrison is the 8 month old baby of Hendra and Matt Brown. Today was the day for hundreds of people to come together to honor Garrison establishing an endowment scholarship fund for him," said Mick Amicone, CEO of the Fieldhouse.

Keynote speakers, Aaron Bates and Dr. James Burson expressed the importance of the role of the teacher, coach and mentor and inspired those to be the best they could despite adversity. Amicone said their goal was to raise $10,000 to go to the Garrison Matthew Brown Scholarship fund.

"18 years from now we have an opportunity to send this one of god’s miracles on to college an enjoy all the things that his dads legacy endured him to do," said Amicone.

Amicone said they plan to make this an annual event.
