The John McIntire Library Hosts Dementia and Caregiving Education Series
ZANESVILLE, OH – Dementia and Alzheimer’s are difficult conditions for patients and their caregivers but thanks to a new program, you can learn how to navigate those challenges.
The John McIntire Library in Zanesville is hosting an educational series for dementia and caregiving on the third Friday of every month including a class this Friday titled “Supporting Independence” at 4 p.m..
“Programs like these are vital for our community. They provide essential resources and support for caregivers, helping them manage the challenges and stress of caring for loved ones with dementia. By increasing education and awareness, we reduce stigma and promote compassion and understanding. These programs also focus on balancing safety and independence for individuals with dementia, enhancing their quality of life. They foster community connections and ensure access to high-quality materials and resources, ultimately improving the well-being of everyone involved.” said Skyler Tigner, the adult services assistant librarian for the John McIntire Library.
While the purpose is educational, these courses also offer an opportunity to share experiences and support one another while going through the difficulties Alzheimer’s and Dementia create.
“I sit in on every single class. It’s been really insightful. Especially with the people in the community coming and hearing that they have a couple support groups in town but not a lot of education on it. And people come and honestly get kind of emotional and kind of tell us what’s going on in their life, ask personal questions to the educators and it’s been really eye opening for me,” Tigner said.
To register for classes you can call 740-453-0391 or send an email to Glgagne@alz.org. You can also visit the Alzheimer’s Associations website to learn more.
