The Local VFW Hosts its 3rd Annual Kids Summer Party This Saturday
If you’re looking for something to do with the kids this Saturday, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 1058 has you covered with its third annual Kids Summer Party.
Located on Putnam Avenue, the party runs from noon to four with activities like slip and slide volley ball, slip and slide sumo wrestling, frisbee toss and more. This event is driven by the sense of community by people like Shaila Worden, the banquet hall manager and event coordinator.
“The idea came from giving back to the community to help the kids within. To give them something to do. Not everybody gets to go to a water park or beach or whatever so this is totally free. The menu is hot dogs or a hamburger, a bag of chips and a mini water that’s totally free for everybody, kids and adults,” Worden said.
The event will also feature prize giveaways. According to Warden, 100 large items like bikes and trampolines accompanied 1,600 little prizes like hula hoops and frisbees are up for grabs thanks to generous sponsors.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank all of our vendors who’ve been very, very generous in helping us put this on. As well as our staff and our wonderful volunteers. Without all these volunteers we would not be able to put something on like this at this magnitude. So they are are appreciated and they are so much a part of our club,” said Linda Porter Crawford, the auxiliary president at VFW Post 1058
Worden says almost 300 children were at last years event and they’d like to see that number grow. Find out more by visiting VFW Post 1058’s Facebook Page.
