The Muskingum County Bar Association Awards three Local Students Essay Scholarships

In celebration of ‘Law Day’ the Muskingum County Bar Association awarded three local students with essay scholarships.

The Muskingum County Bar Association sponsored an essay contest that was open to 2016 graduates of high schools in Muskingum County. The essay was focused on the historical Miranda vs. Arizona case. Susan McDonald said the purpose of the scholarship is encourage high school seniors to better their education.

“We had an essay topic and the concept of it was the Miranda Vs. Arizona rights that you have if you are arrested. The youth had to prepare a double-spaced essay, 500-1,000 words of that topic and present it to the Scholarship Central which is housed at the Muskingum County Community Foundation. Then they compile the essays for us to read and grade,” said McDonald.

The Muskingum County Bar Association awarded first, second, and third place scholarships to Kaleigh Bennett and Alexis Dietz both seniors at Maysville High School, and Blake Stubbins, a senior at West Muskingum High School.

“It shows that we are professional adults in the community that care about young people growing up and going to get their education or a skill and to bring that skill hopefully back to our community,” said McDonald.

Law Day is Sunday, May 1st.
