The Muskingum County Cattlemen’s Association serves local beef while giving back at the fair

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – There’s only a little time left to go out and visit the 179th Muskingum County Fair but there’s one food stand that deserves a shoutout.
The Muskingum County Cattlemen’s Association is a long time staple at the Muskingum County fair serving burgers, ribeye sandwiches, and all beef hot dogs. The funds raised this week are given back to the community through 4-H and the fairgrounds. This week also serves as community outreach for local cattle producers to make the case for local beef.
“Well, I mean, everyone wants to know what they’re eating and where it’s coming from now a days. So, we kind of want to make a emphasis on the local beef so you can meet your beef farmers,” said James McDonald ,the vice president of the Muskingum County Cattleman’s Association. “You know, if we produce the beef here in this Muskingum County you can buy local beef, you can buy off the farmer himself most the time, um, and just knowing where it’s raised, what’s in your beef and and and all that.”
With a week of hard work and serving food to those who attend the county fair, McDonald says its the shared experiences that make working the food stand worth while.
“I just like the comradery of it. I mean, we’re all volunteers. When you have a group of volunteers, probably I’d say 60-70 people here throughout the week. Volunteering to cook the steaks, and the hamburgers, and the hotdogs and I think it’s some of the best fair food you’ll come out here and get,” McDonald said.
The 179th Muskingum County Fair finishes up tomorrow, so make sure to visit their website for a map and list of events.
