The Muskingum Valley Health Center Meets With Muskingum County Commissioners

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Muskingum Valley Health Center is looking to expand.

Chief Executive Officer, Dan Atkinson was part of a group that met Monday with Muskingum County Commissioners. They asked about a county owned building on Pinkerton Lane.

“The main benefit of us expanding into the community is adding the additional access to primary care services,” said Atkinson, “Which gives the residents the options for establishing themselves in a medical home. And it prevents people from utilizing the emergency room and urgent care faculties when they just need a chronic condition managed for medication. The most important aspect is we’re managing individuals care because they developed those chronic diseases. We are trying to keep the community healthier.”

Atkinson said its important to get more people into primary care because it will help lower overall costs.

“Adair Avenue, site we are at 100% capacity. We continually see a demand for primary care. This will give us the ability to go out and expand and be able to provide access to an additional 5,000 to 7,000,” said Atkinson.

Atkinson said if everything goes according to plan this project will bring an additional 30 medical, office staff and health care positions. They are aiming for a 2017 opening date for the new facility.
