The National Guard Recognizes WHIZ
The Ohio Army National Guard made a stop at WHIZ today…
Representatives of the Ohio Army National Guard and the Ohio Association of Broadcasters visited WHIZ this morning to recognize the station for their contribution to the National Guard’s recruitment efforts through participating in the OAB’s non-commercial sustaining announcement program.
"This station has been a fantastic partner. We couldn’t do what we do without partnerships, without organizations like this, and this station is one of our premiere partners in that endeavor," said Colonel John Harris.
Due to the efforts of radio and television stations around the state airing the National Guard’s recruitment spots, the Army National Guard has exceeded its recruitment targets for the past several years. Colonel John Harris, the Assistant Adjutant General for Army for the Ohio National Guard, says their highest priority is always being ready, and this summer, they will be mobilizing the largest formation since WW2, with 2,100 soldiers on their way to Afghanistan.
"The community really is..the hometown National Guard reallly is what the National Guard is about. When the citizen soldier deploys, When the citizen soldier responds…it really is about the entire community responding, so the small town is the essence of what we are and what we do," said Colonel John Harris.
