The National Road- Zane Grey Museum Holiday Event

One local and historic museum that was closed for the season has reopened their doors for a very special event.

The National Road Zane Grey Museum hosted their first holiday event Saturday. This event is similar to an open house, however, the main difference is it’s a Christmas theme. We spoke to Santa Claus who was also dressed as a representation of the caricature that Thomas Nast drew during the Civil War to represent Santa visiting union army camps during the war.

“We put up a trail of trees as you can see here, 27 Christmas trees scattered throughout the museum and all of them are lighted. There is also, the usual tour to be seen as well. Today it’s free admission. Included in the tour is the national road exhibit, the Zane Grey exhibit. Zane Grey is the world famous author from Zanesville. Lastly, but not least is the display of pottery. There is a chance to get a little history in with a Christmas flavor,” said Santa Claus.

There were also refreshments provided by Santa’s little helpers.

“The elf’s spent untold hours getting ready to buy some Christmas cookie on the way in here. They spent a lot of time brewing the cider which they picked up at the grocery store on the way in here,” said Santa.

The event started at 10 a.m. and ended at 3 p.m.
