The Nutcracker continues holiday tradition at Secrest Auditorium

ZANESVILLE, OH- A cherished holiday tradition is returning to the Secrest Auditorium stage this weekend to delight audiences with its magical story and professional-level performances.

This year marks the 13th annual production of The Nutcracker by Movement on Main, featuring local dancers ranging from 4-year-olds to high school seniors, alongside two professional guest dancers from Ballet Met. The students rehearsed for hundreds of hours to create a show that brings both artistry and joy to the community.

“One of my favorite things is seeing the kids grow in their confidence, and grow in their dancing and their artistic expression, one of my favorite parts is when the curtain closes at the end and everybody is just so excited that they put on a fantastic show,” said Movement on Main Studio Director, Whitney Lewis.

The timeless story of The Nutcracker follows Clara on a magical journey with her Nutcracker doll-turned-prince, and this year’s cast is more excited than ever to showcase their hard work.

“Getting all of the crazy partnering, especially in one scene, we have a flying shoulder sit and getting that was a really good day for me, and so I’m excited for it all to just come together,” said Charissa Johnson, a senior high school student performing in the Nutcracker.

The production has become a beloved tradition for both the performers and the community, with many students participating year after year.

“Just having really good memories here and having friends here that will be with me for a while,” said Marley Gibbs, a 5th grade student performing in the Nutcracker.

Tickets are still available for all performances. Showtimes include 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Visit the Secrest Auditorium website to reserve your seats and experience the holiday magic.
