The Salvation Army host distribution day

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The Salvation Army was bustling with activity this morning as Christmas came early for some area residents.

“It’s so wonderful to see smiles,” Office Manager, Mindy Mcloy said. “Excitement. I mean the atmosphere is just charged with excitement.”

Smiling is contagious, especially on this Thursday. It’s The Salvation Army’s distribution day. 60 volunteers showed up to hand out 1400 toys and Christmas baskets to more than 400 local families.

“It is was the most exciting day for us here at The Salvation Army. We love it. The volunteers love it,” Mcloy said.

New this year 100 bikes. Thanks to a special donation through the Romney’s bike drive.

“It’s really rewarding seeing everyone’s faces and people in tears,” Volunteer, Whitney Wilson said. “It’s very, very rewarding. Just that we help give back to the community.”

For many families, shopping at The Salvation Army’s distribution day is a true Christmas miracle. Eva Bogel has fallen on tough times. The single mother of three just recently adopted her cousin and money is tight. But thanks to The Salvation Army, she’s able to provide gifts for her children on Christmas morning.

“I would like to say thank tremendously,” Bogel said. “It’s a joy to be able to know that we can always come here, so our kids to have a beautiful Christmas.”

And that’s exactly what this season is all about. Not the gifts, but giving back. And none of this would be possible without the support of the community.
