Theft Leads to Shooting in Morgan County

A homeowner takes matters into his own hands during a theft.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said that around 11am Thursday morning they received a call that a theft was occurring on Wagoner Road in Marion Township and that a weapon had been fired.

When authorities arrived they found the property owner and the victim 36-year-old Jerry Grant of Athens in a field west of Wagoner Road.

The weapon was recovered from the landowner. Grant was taken to an Athens hospital and then transferred to a Charleston hospital with non life threatening injuries.

A driver of a vehicle, 26-year-old Alieen Mays-Stobart also from Athens was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Athens County.

The investigations continues. The name of the homeowner isn’t being released at this time.
