Thieves Steal Christmas

The Cambridge Police Department said two residents attempted to steal a Secret Santa donation box on Monday.

Cambridge Police said they were called to Orme Hardware on South 11th Street around 10:15 Monday morning after employees reported their donation box had been stolen. Officers checked the area but didn’t find the suspect initially.

After looking at security footage, Patrolman Tim Ferguson identified the suspect as 35-year-old Mathew McComas of Cambridge. Officer found the suspect’s vehicle parked in front of his home. After a search, McComas was found hiding in an upstairs bedroom.

McComas along with 23-year-old Kristina Andrews were placed under arrest. Both were taken to the county jail where McComas confessed to the alleged theft.

Andrews denied involvement but it was determined she was the driver of the vehicle McComas fled in.

Officers then went to a dumpster on Deerpath Drive and recovered the donation box. The box was returned to volunteers at Secret Santa.

McComas and Andrews are both charged with theft and obstructing official business.
