Third Annual Zane’s Trace Commemoration Set for This Weekend
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Zane’s Trace Commemoration is a festival held each summer at Putnam Landing Park that celebrates the cultural heritage of life on the Muskingum River.
Commemoration Board President Rick Buck explained how the variety of contests and entertainment scheduled for this weekend’s third annual event will provide fun for all ages.
“The Zane’s Trace Commemoration will start Friday and it will have a grand opening at 12:30 with the ribbon cutting on the main stage with the mayor and a few other people. We’ll have live bands all weekend, we’ll have a big parade on Saturday morning, starts at 10 o’clock downtown. We’re going to have stuff going on all weekend. There will be like close to a hundred vendors here. Just a little bit of everything for everybody. We have history tents, I mean there’s going to be a lot of stuff going on,” Buck said.
The free event will be held along Muskingum Avenue that crosses Putnam Avenue just south of the Sixth Street Bridge. The bridge and Putnam Avenue will remain open and free parking will be available along the streets throughout the neighborhood.
“The best thing to do is go onto our website, it’s Zane’s Trace Commemoration dot com,” Buck said. “You can find all the information on there. You’ve got the band schedule, what bands will be playing, what time. It’s got everything on there. Forms if you want to participate we’re still taking applications for… you know, any of the contests, vendors, parade, it’s all open still. So we’ll take them clear up ’til the day.”
There are many aspects such as funding, scheduling, organizing and site preparation that take a community effort to make the commemoration possible and Buck expressed his gratitude to everyone that has contributed in making the event a success and helping it continue to grow.
