Threats in Utica Made Due to Interracial Dating

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office says two threatening letters received by the North Fork School District were directed toward students in interracial relationships.

The sheriff’s office is continuing an investigation in cooperation with the Utica Police Department and the FBI into threats which were received on Monday.

The two separate but identical letters specifically outlined threats and acts of violence to be carried out during Utica Homecoming festivities.  As a result of the threats, the district decided to cancel classes for Friday (September 18th) as well as all festivities for homecoming week, including the game.

The sheriff’s office says the letters detailed specific threats toward those students engaged in interracial dating and specifically threatened violence at the school functions associated with the homecoming.

A press relesase states the author seems to express anger over the fact that interracial dating is tolerated and occurring within the student body in the district.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating leads as they become available and invites anyone with information pertaining to the author(s) of these letters to call Capt. Chris Slayman at 740-670-5534, Sgt. Jay Cook at 740-670-5537, or the Utica Police Department at 740-892-2211.
