Tips to Soothe Your Pets This 4th of July

ZANESVILLE, OH – As fireworks light up the night sky, it’s important to keep your furry companions in mind.

Fireworks can be stressful for all animals, but there are several ways to help keep them calm.

April Gibson, the Executive Director of the Animal Shelter Society, recommends making a safe space in your home for your animal to go to when they’re scared.

She also recommends playing some background music or reading to your dog; which is what her staff will be doing this 4th of July for the animals in their care.

“We are not going to have customer service hours, we’re going to be working with our animals, they’re going to have their swimming pools and their time,” Gibson said. “What’s really important and really cool, what we’re going to do for these animals that are here, they’re going to be read to on July 4th, during the red, white, and the booms out there.”

Also coming up on Sunday, July 28th, is the 6th annual Putt 4 Paws Golf Outing at the Green Valley Golf Course.

Gibson says there is still time to become a sponsor and help support the Shelter’s mission.

“Hole sponsor is only $100, that’s really cheap to showcase your business, your family, a memorial perhaps,” Gibson said. “We really appreciate it, being a 100% non-profit, this is how we make this happen.”
