Township Rd. 265 Closed

NEWTON TOWNSHIP, OHIO (WHIZ) – Township Road 265 in Newton Township will be closed for culvert and bridge replacement between State Route 93 and Huggins Road starting Monday. The engineer’s office says the closure is expected to last ten days.

IRS Scam

COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) – Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine is warning residents to beware of scam artists pretending to be from the Internal Revenue Service as Wednesday’s tax-filing deadline nears. Dewine said many of the scam phone calls originate from out of the state or country and usually involves an impostor who claims that residents owe money for back taxes or are under investigation for tax fraud.

Fire Fighter Training

ZANESVILLE, OHIO (WHIZ) – South Zanesville, Wayne Township, Harrison Township, and Washington Township Fire Departments participated in a search and rescue training exercise in South Zanesville Sunday. The training was part of mandatory hours to maintain fire certifications.

Free Bike Helmets

COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) – Ohio officials are backing up a safety push by providing some 9,300 bicycle helmets for children around the state. The Ohio Department of Transportation is contributing $25,000 and the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is adding $14,000 for the effort.

Proposed Entertainment Districts

COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) – Ohio’s lawmakers are considering a proposal that would allow for entertainment districts where patrons could carry open containers of alcohol outside. The proposal would put a limit of two entertainment districts in cities with at least 50,000 people. Cities with at least 35,000 could create one area where bar and restaurant customers could walk outside with open containers without breaking the law.
