Town Hall Meetings to Discuss Center for Seniors Future

The new Center for Seniors building sits nestled in downtown Zanesville on the corner of Shinnick and 4th Street but renovations have not yet begun.

As the new Center for Seniors project moves forward, the County Commissioners and the Senior Center Board want to ensure the local community has a hand in creating a new center that will fit the needs of area seniors.

“Basically what we’re going to be bringing to the meeting is basically an opportunity to see the building itself, look at the parking lots, look at the fact that it’s a two story building, and give people an opportunity to really give input,” said Executive Director of the Center for Seniors in Muskingum County Ann COmbs. “It’ll be an opportunity for us to take community input and put that into a plan.”

Two town hall meetings will be held in the coming weeks. The first to be hosted next Monday Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at the current Center for Seniors in the Sunrise Shopping complex. Combs encourages the community to attend and share their ideas. She said that even if the Senior Center isn’t a destination for you today, it may be in the future.

“This plan isn’t just for 2015/2016,” said Combs. “This building is for Muskingum County for years and years to come so think of yourselves in a way, in the way that we’re all going to be a senior someday and senior services are very important to our county.”

The second chance to voice your opinions about renovations to the new building will be Nov. 23 at 6 p.m. at the John Mcintire Library in downtown Zanesville.
