ZANESVILLE, OH – A local domestic violence shelter is calling the community to lace up their boots and strap on their heels.

Transitions is gearing up for the 12th annual “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” event on October 6th in front of the Muskingum County Courthouse.

Dorothy Thomas, Court Advocate for Transitions, says along with the teams of walkers and celebrity walkers there will also be a guest speaker to share their story with the community.

“This year we’re going to have Danny Harper talk about walking on eggshells and growing up in a family of domestic violence, maybe not all physical but a lot of mental abuse and things that happen that affect family dynamics.” Thomas said.

Thomas says the goal of this event is to show the different situations that domestic violence can affect, from partners to entire families.

She hopes this event will continue to grow and help to spread more awareness.

“Last year we had about 300, 350 there, so this year we’re hoping to get more people there.” Thomas said. “Every year I expect it to get bigger, we might have less walkers, we may have less of things but still, it’s a family event.”

If you’re interested in putting together a team of walkers for this event, you can reach out to Katie Oberhauser at (740)-739-8434.
