Tri-Valley Girls Basketball Coach Non-Renewed

After 16 years and 235 wins, Marty Bice is no longer the head girls basketball coach at Tri-Valley. Bice confirmed on Wednesday that his contract was non-renewed by the school board.

"The 16 years I coached at Tri-Valley were, I would say, awesome," Bice said. "Sure I was disappointed but that’s totally within (the schools administration’s) right to be able to do that. That’s their decision and you’ve just got to live with it and move on. I’ve had a great run and we’ve had great success and (I’m) just going to leave it with a positive spin."

Bice led the Scotties all the way to the Division II state semifinals in 2005. He has also helped bring five MVL championships, seven sectional titles and a pair of district titles to Dresden. Many of Bice’s players have excelled at the next level, including former Akron standouts Hanna Luburgh and Carly Young and former Lehigh Mountain Hawk Tricia Smith.

"I’ve been blessed to have some great players that went on to a higher level and played college ball at the Division I, Division II and Division III levels, and it leaves a sense of pride in knowing that you can help them further their career as far as playing basketball and hopefully add to their success," Bice said.

As for the possibility of returning to the sidelines, Bice made it clear that his love for coaching has not gone away.

"I’m not going to close any doors because I do enjoy coaching and working with kids," he said.

"It’s time to step away, look back at as far as what my staff and I did over 16 years and be proud of what we did."
