ZANESVILLE, Ohio- TruLight Ministries is preparing for its 6th annual One Night in a Box Fundraiser this Friday, September 3rd from 7PM to 7AM. Funds raised from this event will help TruLight Ministries to pay for renovations to the building including a lounging area, showering space, and laundry facilities for its guests.

The night will kick off with a community block party with a live christian band SlawDog performing with free food and refreshments. The block party festivities will wind down between 9 and 10 in the evening when boxes will be distributed and spots in the parking lot can be staked out.

“We currently right now have 74 people that have signed up to spend the night in a box. About 60 of those are doing it here in our parking lot, and the others have decided to either do it at another church facility or their doing it from their home. We do give that option after last year’s COVID incident. We give people the option if they’d like to just do it at their house or they could do it in another spot, they can still have the experience of sleeping in a box overnight but don’t necessarily have to come here in our parking lot and be around all the people,” Edward Swartz, executive director of TruLight Ministries stated.

Every individual who gets a sponsorship of more than $100 will receive a “I survived ONE NIGHT IN A BOX” t-shirt. When you sign up, you do not need a sponsor, and aren’t required to have one the night of either. But any sponsorships help the ministry tremendously. This year, TruLight Ministries is feeling ambitious and wants to raise more than the $16,000 raised last year. The executive director has even raised the stakes about the funds they raise this year.

“I have agreed that if we raise $20,000 this year, I would color my hair blue for a week. So there are those in our congregation that are hoping to see me with blue hair,” Swartz said.

Even if the goal is not met, the funds will go a long way towards providing for the community and TruLight Ministries. They will have designated guards to make sure everyone’s safe at every hour of the night and as an added perk, Tee Jaye’s restaurant will provide breakfast to all participants in the morning.
