Two Vehicle Fatal Accident on I-70

Zanesville, OH- A McConnelsville man was killed on Interstate 70 east Sunday morning.

The accident took place near the 155 mile marker just before 1:30am.

The State Highway Patrol said that a semi driven by 42-year-old Jamal Gathumbi, of Maryland, was traveling east on I-70 through the construction zone, when a vehicle driven by 38-year-old Derek Lydelle, who was traveling I-70 westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck the semi head on. Both vehicles caught fire.

Authorities said three juvenile passengers were able to escape the vehicle and were transported to Genesis Hospital with serious injuries. Lydelle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
