MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- United Way is excited to announce its goal of collecting 50 fans to give out to community members in need.

In May, United Way started a fan drive to collect fans from businesses and individuals who wanted to donate. 50 fans equate to over $1,000 worth of fans. Last year United Way hosted a fan drive but decided to set a goal this year.

“So 211, our resource that people can call if they need, tallies up what needs people call about every month and one of the needs that comes up every summer is the need to cool off. So, fans and where can we get AC, that kind of thing. We didn’t have a way to help them in the past, so this year seeing that need, we decided that we wanted to do something to help out, which was to raise those fans,” United Way Resource Development Director Kyle Dunn said.

The Salvation Army will distribute the fans. If you’re interested in a fan to help cool you off this summer, you can call the Salvation Army and request one.

“There are a lot of people in the community who call in who don’t have the money to buy a fan or AC. A lot of people are elderly… There are people who have asthma as well and they don’t have a way to get out of the heat so maybe they live in the city where there aren’t any trees, shade or don’t have air conditioning in the first place,” Dunn said.

United Way thanks everyone who donated towards the fan drive. To learn more about the fan drive or United Way, visit its website here.
