UPDATE: Another Attempted Abuduction in Newark

UPDATE:  Sgt. Scott Snow says Newark police Detectives made contact with, interviewed and arrested a subject on the recent incidents around Newark involving an older male approaching females and asking to give them rides.

In one incident, a 19 year old female entered the car and had physical contact with the male.

Arrested is Thomas C. Cheney, 78, of Millersport, Oh., He will be charged with one count of attempted Gross Sexual Imposition pending a review by the Licking County Prosecutor’s Office.

Detectives received a tip from a citizen who recognized the vehicle as similar to the description put out by police.

The Newark Police Department says it’s investigating another attempted abduction and it could be connected two other similar incidents there last week.

Sergeant Scott Snow says the latest incident occurred Tuesday night on the east side of Newark where a man with a tan asked a female for directions. Sgt Snow says the woman approached the vehicle but did not get in. The man’s complexion was described as very tan, looking almost “orange-ish”. This incident comes after two females made similar claims last week.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 50’s to 60s with dark and grey hair with a slender build. Police also released a photo of a vehicle the suspect may be driving. It’s a gray or sliver Dodge full-size pickup. It’s newer and may have a “crew cab.” The windows are tinted and it had a cap on the back. Detectives hope the suspect will call police and clear up any “misunderstandings” that have occurred.
