**UPDATE** One Man in Custody After Standoff, Vehicle Pursuit
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that occurred as the result of a motor vehicle pursuit, ending on U.S. 22 in Guernsey County early Friday morning.
The Cambridge Post of the Highway Patrol said troopers initiated the pursuit on I-77 near mile marker 83 in Tuscarawas County just after 5 a.m. From there, the pursuit headed south into Guernsey County. Troopers successfully deployed spike strips near mile marker 49, resulting in damage to the front tire of the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle then continued southbound and exited at U.S. 22, but the flat tire made the vehicle unstable. Troopers’ then made contact with the suspect’s vehicle and safely ended the pursuit near mile marker 21. The suspect’s vehicle overturned as a result, and it came to rest on its side.
No officers were injured in the incident. The suspect and only occupant, Fabian Potter II, 30, of Canton, was charged with fleeing, theft, failure to comply, driving under suspension and receiving stolen property. He was transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The pursuit reached maximum speeds of 95 mph. The case remains under investigation.
The patrol said the decision to begin the pursuit followed an advisory from the Canton Police Department, who were pursuing a stolen black Ford Explorer with a possible weapon on Interstate 77. After Canton Police terminated that pursuit, troopers on Interstate 77 spotted the suspect vehicle as it exited at mile marker 87, before it stopped for gas and drove away without paying.
